Tibidabo Barcelona Day Trip – a Vintage Amusement Park with a View (and a Church…)

Let me start this post by stating that, usually, I wouldn’t say I like amusement parks. I wouldn’t say I like the flashing lights, the plastic rides, and how they all look alike.

But Tibidabo doesn’t look like other amusement parks. Like Barcelona’s other attractions, it gives you a sense of delight.

Barcelona from Tibidabo: Quite the view

Tibidabo is the tallest mountain in the Serra de Collserola and boasts outstanding views of Barcelona. Legend has it that Jesus was first tempted by the devil here when he was told, “All this I will give you if you kneel.”

How to get to Tibidabo, Barcelona

The team is an experience in and of itself. I think it’s the most fun way to reach Tibidabo.

To take the tram, catch the train from Plaça Catalunya and take the L7 to Avenida Tibidabo. From there, buy a ticket and hop on the tram.

Tibidabo’s tram was opened in 1901, the same time the funicular was opened. The seats on the tram are built vertically, so it’s like a moving staircase. It’s pretty unique.

Reaching Tibidabo by Bus from Barcelona

Touristic bus T2A leaves from Plaça Catalunya (the bus stop is located on the corner of Plaça Catalunya and Rambla Catalunya, in front of Caja Madrid bank). The bus runs from 10.15 a.m. every 20 minutes on the days that the amusement park is open.

What to see in Tibidabo?

It is an old amusement park with a lot of charm.

Surprisingly, it’s an ACTUAL plane with the original interior.

The park may be old, but it still gives you that ‘giddy’ feeling. The amusement park has its charm. Of course, you can’t expect heart-stopping rides like you find in modern amusement parks. But its vintage charm and view make up for it.

Before the carousel goes round and round…

We will never get too old for the carousel!!

The theme park has a roller coaster, horror attractions, mysterious castles, and crash cars, But with the views here, it’s enough to go on a few rides just for the novelty of it and spend the rest of the time marveling at Barcelona below.

Tibidabo’s Souvenirs

It turns out the plane is also Tibidabo’s symbol.

You can get tickets online should you want to purchase in advance.

Torre de Collserola

The tower was built in 1991 for the 1992 Summer Olympics. Since then, it has become an icon in Tibidabo. It is mainly used as a transmitter for TV and radio, but the 10th floor is open to the public and offers a picturesque view of Barcelona. Events and other gatherings can also be conducted here.

Sagrada Corazón

Not every day you find such a beautiful cathedral beside an amusement park.

According to history, this design from the 1900s was based on Paris’s infamous Sacré-Cœur cathedral. My favorite feature was the chandelier.

I suggest people with fears of heights go to Tibidabo. With the great view and amazing things you can find here, you’ll get over that fear instantly, especially if you take a plane ride.

I had much more fun than anticipated, from the tram ride to visiting the cathedral, admiring the views, and whirling around on the carousel and a vintage airplane. I didn’t even think I liked amusement parks!

In conclusion, Tibidabo Barcelona offers a unique experience blending vintage charm with breathtaking city views. Whether you’re a fan of amusement parks or not, Tibidabo is sure to leave you with a sense of delight and wonder.

So, next time you’re in Barcelona, add Tibidabo to your itinerary for a memorable day trip filled with fun and panoramic vistas.
